Tamaki College Science Expirement

For the past four weeks, we have been taking science sessions at Tamaki College. We have been creating our own moon rover based design with only cardboard, glue, straws, and skewer sticks. The rover was only allowed to be powered by rubber bands. We had been split into two classes since there were so many of us, and at the end we all came together and had a competition to see who's rover would go the furthest. 

Blog Commenting

Below are screenshots of comments I have made on a friend's, students, different school, and class blog giving positive, helpful, and thoughtful feedback. It is the new to teach students who were doing blog commenting in a different way, that this is the best way! The poster informs us on what we should include in a comment. This reminds us of how to properly write a comment. 

Dear Term 1 Me

In Term 1, we wrote a letter to our Term 4 future selves listing goals we want to achieve by the time we re-open that letter in Term 4. We opened that letter today and responded with whether we achieved those goals, and our other achievements this year! Below is the reply I wrote:

L1: To reflect on personal goals set in term 1

Dear Term 1 me,

What a journey it’s been! Three terms have gone by so fast, and it’s unfortunate that this term is going to be my last… But lets not drown ourselves in negativity, you have been an awesome presenter this year! - and fantastic leader might I add. You have accomplished more than you had wanted and ever thought you could! Before I gloat, you’re still working on fractions unfortunately, but you’re getting there. Slowly, but eventually, you will master this! You started using a thesaurus but got slack half way through the year, but your vocabulary has improved a lot since the beginning of the year; it shows in your writing sample. You have memorised your 12x12 and 12x11 multiplication, I don’t even remember how you got confused with these now. You have been reading a lot this year and have gained a new favourite book thanks to fine - Red Queen. You're still waiting for the second book. The highlights of this year has to be our writing improvements, speech contest, and camp. You had gone from a level 4a to 6b! The highest score in PBS, alongside fine. You also came second in the speech competition which was more than amazing! It was even more special that you went through it with a bestie! Camp was an unforgettable experience and we can't wait until our next! Prize giving is coming up and it looks promising, also graduation and college is something to look forward to. Manaiakalani Ambassador Presentation

Today I represented Panmure Bridge School at the Panmure Yacht club to an audience of teachers. Each school in the Manaiakalani Cluster had one representative who presented a digital learning object in their classroom. I decided to showcase a google poster I created earlier this year based around the Maori Pioneer Battalion. My challenge was to write a letter to the editor sharing my reasons why conscription of men who the government has disappointed should not be allowed. All students that had contributed to the presenting today did excellently and we all encouraged each other. It was nice meeting new people and we all said our goodbye's - for now. Below is the presentation I showcased. Hopefully you like it as much as everyone else did. 

Critical Friend - Writing

Room 6 and Room 5 (my class) worked collaboratively together in critical partners to go over one person's writing sample from term 1 and term 4. My partner (Linda) and I decided to work on her writing sample's instead of mine. To correct her work and see what level she is working at and what she needs to do to get to the next level, we used the room 5 writing rubric. The Room 5 writing rubric is a presentation a group of students in Room 5 including myself created for students who found it difficult to understand the teacher rubric to use ours and easily understand what it means. We went over all six slides (rubrics), punctuation, vocab, organisation, sentence structure, structure and language, and ideas. In the comments section, we worked together to find her mistakes and what she had done right. When we figured it out, we listed in the comments what these were. This helped Linda know what she has right and what she needs help with. The rubric told her what level she is at and what she needs to do to get to the next level. We used suggestions to fix up her Term 4 writing sample so she could understand her mistakes and how to fix them and how easily it is to fix. We worked collaboratively helping each other and giving critical feedback. 

Axel and Wheel

This is the ifaketext my partner (zeba) and I created on the axel and wheel history. It gives you a brief rundown of the history of why everyone under three feet was executed. We list all the reasons we know and try make it simple to understand.

The Lever

This is the google poster my group and I created giving you information about a lever. This is based around 'simple machines'. Our science topic. We wrote down in less than 25 words a short explanation of what a lever is. We also included the defintion of the three words present on the image so you understand it more simply. 

Wedge

This is the google poster my group and I created giving you information on the wedge. This is based around 'simple machines'. Our science topic. We included a 25 word explanation about the process of a wedge, and facts beneath to build a bigger picture. 

Tamaki College Science

Today the year 7 and 8 classes went to Tamaki College to start our science project. We were split into two classes and were in groups of 4 or 5. We were introduced to the things we need to know before we create our moon rover. For the next four weeks, for our science we will be creating a moon rover powered by a rubber band. We went over a presentation with different questions we needed to figure out and find out about before we start creating anything. When we finish our rover, we will race against other groups and record down the greatest distance. 

Screws - Simple Machinery

This is the digital learning object my group and I created revolving around screws. This ties in with our science topic 'simple machinery'. We're learning about the Six Simple Machinery. My group and I watched a video that gives you information about screws and created a google presentation recording down what we learnt in our own words. We added an extra slide with fun facts!

Decimal Place Value

This is my Decimal Place Value digital learning object I created. My classroom have been practicing place value and one of our follow up tasks were to create a dlo showing our understanding of decimal place value. I included examples to make it clear. 

Jaffa Roll Experiment - Planning House

This is the Science Planning House we filled out based around the Jaffa Roll Experiment we had done. We needed to start from the bottom of the house and go upwards. My group and I predicted nearly exactly what happened in the outcome, except our Jaffa had gone more further than we had thought fortunately. 

Jaffa Roll Experiment

This is the fotor I created based around the Jaffa Roll experiment we had done on Tuesday. We needed to create something out of cardboard, sellotape, scissors, and glue that would make the Jaffa we were given go as far as possible. Everyone had done something ramp like since it was the most effective choice. Our Jaffa had gone 816 centimetres. The longest had gone over 900 centimetres. We were happy with our score since compared to others was really good. Everyone had fun and had creative designs that turned cardboard into something cool. 

Inclined Plane

This is the google poster my group and I created based around the inclined plane. This ties in with the work we will be doing in science at our technology. This prepares us for the work we will be doing and builds our knowledge on simple machinery. Our task was to write in 25 words what an inclined plane is and how it works.  

Dare DLO

This is my powtoon I created based around wise choices. It gives you an idea on how to make a wise choice in a difficult situation. I did a scenario on being peer pressured into smocking. Hopefully you learn the importance of making wise choices and pass it on!

Rugby World Cup

 This is the Rugby World Cup my partner (Fine) and I created based around try highlights. This presentation includes video's of the tries we both thought stood out among others and wrote down what happened. Enjoy!

This is a google presentation I filled out based around an article about a girl being injured by a firework. This revolves around our guyfawkes tasks. Firework Safety

My group and I (Sajiha, Linda, Silivia, and I) created this google presentation to aware the children in the junior section about the dangers of fireworks but in an easy way to understand for their age. My group presented this presentation to the kids in room 4 who are around the age of 5. The main message we gave was to be safe. That revolves around everything we had talked about. If you have a younger sibling, it would be wise to show them this presentation if you have not already shared the dangers and/or/ are doing fireworks tonight. Happy guyfawkes!

Rugby Under Wraps Comparison

My task was to read the article 'Rugby Under Wraps'. The article was about women in Iran who play rugby. It tells you the rules that the women have to follow to be able to play. After reading the article, I needed to create a DLO comparing women's rugby in New Zealand to women's rugby in Iran.  

T4 W2 - Homework

This is the google presentation Fine, Samantha, and I created for our homework. Our task was to create a DLO that informs someone about the five W's (who, what, where, when, why). This helps us build our writing skills for when we write our recounts in Week 4.
