1. Walk out the door and walk to the first water fountain you see.

2. Turn to the left and walk nine big steps forward onto the field.

3. Walk to the rock climbing wall at the park.

4. On either sis of the rock climbing wall is two ladders to climb up on.

5. Climb up either ladder and walk to the middle of the bridge.

6. You have reached your final destination.

My Holiday Story

During the holidays I watched 3 amazing movies, the movies I watched are called Monsters University, World War Z and Despicable Me 2. The first movie I watched over the holidays was Monsters University. I watched this movie at Sylvia Park cinema. The movie started at 10:00am in the morning. I went with my Mum, Brother and my Brothers friends. We were going to watch Despicable Me 2, but the tickets were all sold out. So my Mum and I watched Monsters University and My Brother and his friends watched the Lone Ranger.

Monsters University is a animated movie. Before the movie started my mum bought 2 small popcorns and 2 small drinks for herself and me. The food was really yummy. My favourite part of the movie was when Mike started a group and entered in the scare competitions. The good part of my day was mostly watching Monsters University, the only bad part of my day was that we didn’t get the chance to watch Despicable Me 2. After the movie finished My Brother, Mum and I went to pak “n” save

Later on in the holidays I watched another movie called World War Z. I watched the movie at Sylvia Park cinema. World War Z is a non - animated movie, which means real people are acting in this movie. The time the movie started was 9:00 am in the morning, that was the only time it was shown early. This time when I watched the movie, I watched it with my other brother. My Mum went shopping while my brother and I watched the movie.

My brother and I each had a small drink and small popcorn. My Brother and I needed to share a packet of lollies. The movie was scary, cool and sad. I loved it. The movie was about a virus that someone had that spread throughout person to person. The only way to catch the virus was the person that had the virus to bite the other person, it is like a zombie. In the end the main character Brad Pitt found a cure for them not the zombies. The cure protected them from the zombies so they won’t get infected. This was a really good movie.

My favourite part of the movie was when the zombies jumped on each other until the zombies reached the wall israel built. The only bad part of that day was when my brother ate all the lollies, most of them. After the movie finished My Brother, Mum and I went shopping.

Further on in the holidays, I watched the movie I was dying to watch since, Despicable Me 2. The movie was to die for. I watched this movie with my Brother at  Mission bay cinema. We watched the movie there because my other brother was practicing soccer with his friends there.

The movie started at 10:20am in the morning and lasted for 2 hours. The movie was about this under cover spy who was looking for a criminal mastermind who stole this potion that turns things into big, purple, hairy, strong things. It was so cool. My favourite part of the movie was when Crum got married and his daughter sang this adorable poet. The only part of the day I didn’t like was when my other Brother kept playing with his friends for hours and hours. After the movie finished we to a cafe and bought some hot chocolates and went home.

1. How do the bagpipes link to historic times?

Patriotic songs were played on the bagpipes to fire up the soldiers when they were at war with England.

2. What are the requirements for playing the bagpipes?

A strong pair of lungs and a lot of air to produce a steady, loud sound on the bagpipes

3. At what age did Nick learn to play the bagpipes?

He was 3 years old when he first heard the bagpipes at a fair, ever since then he wanted to play the bagpipes. He loved the loud noise.

4. What is a chanter?

A small pipe with finger holes on which the melody is played to get used to the fingering.

5. Why was Nick disappointed when he started to play the bagpipes for the first time?

Because only a few squawky sounds came out.

6. How long did it take Nick to perfect his playing?

It took about half a year for Nick to master them.

7. What are some of the activities that have to be co-ordinated when playing the pipes?

*The leather bag has to be inflated by blowing through the blowpipe.

*The elbow has to apply steady pressure so that air can travel up into the drone pipes and down into the melody pipe to produce a sound.

*The melody must be played with fingers of both hands.

*The music must be learnt because you cannot read music when you are marching.

*The drone pipes must be held carefully so that they don’t slip and poke someone in the eye.

8. What events did Nick play for?

*A Scottish dance evening

*A fair

*An opening for a new part of the school when the Governor-General visited.

*Before a rugby game.

9. Why is practising the bagpipes important?

If you don’t play the bagpipes often, the reeds dry out and it’s hard to bring them back to the right moisture level. The drone pipes can also get out of tune if the pipes aren’t played everyday.

10. What are the parts to bagpipes?

*Leather bag.

*Drone pipes.

*Blowpipe.

*Melody pipe (chanter)

11. How many notes are played on the bagpipes?

9 different notes.

12. How is the Queen of England woken up each morning?

The Queen of England has a personal piper who wakes her up most mornings. He plays while walking up and down the castle lawn under her bedroom window.

The sound of the bagpipes can carry up to 9 kilometres.
