Blog Comment
Hi Room 3,
your video is very creative. It's upsetting knowing that these inicent turtles are being killed by the amount of polution in our enviroment. Before we know it, the sea turtle species will be extinct. It's very cool watching those props move around. It was especially cool when the turtle dug the whole and little white balls started falling in. I can't wait to see another amazing manaikalani film festival film from your class.

Narrative Start
In the land of the lost, a family of three rapidly examined their surroundings in search for the deafening roaring sound that had awoken the frightened family from their slumber. Aged 13, Paz stumbled to her feet thinking of what creature would have the ability to make a noise so loud and make the floor beneath her vibrate. Her mother(Saffron) knelt beside her wounded father(Asarif). “Mother, the vibration is growing stronger and the roaring is getting closer. We need to leave before we’re too late!” “Paz, I can not leave your father, not like this. Leave me and your father to be, find your way off the unknown.”
“No! I’m not leaving you nor father” “Silence! You will do this. Leave. Now!” With a tear of sadness rolled down the soft and pale skin of Paz , she packed her bag and kissed her parents goodbye then sprinted as fast as she could away from the creature. Paz felt ashamed. Leaving her mother and near deceased father to be murdered by a horrid and massive creature of the unknown. Paz ran until she couldn’t feel the touch of her feet hit the ground. She spotted a cave and decided to relax inside for a nights slumber after clearing the inside for any creatures. Where do I go, how do I escape from an Island in the middle of no-where?, thought Paz sadly. The earth beneath her slowly calmed down, her environment was dead silent. A bomb of relief exploded in the face of Paz. She has escaped from the beast, but only for now. Paz awoke to the intense shine of the daylight. With a sigh of sorrow, Paz slithered out of her sleeping sack then rose to her feet, determined to discover a way off the island. Paz searched daily and nightly for anyone and anything to help her escape from this unknown island. Paz had hope in everything, but in her situation all hope was lost. If Paz was to became extinct on an isolated island alone, she wanted to become deceased being proud. “I vow to my lord and parents to defeat the monster who stole the lives of my mother and father or perish from existence trying” echoed Paz’s voice. Paz planned to create a racket of deafening noises to attract the beast. Then with all her might, she would strike the creature. Her idea was crazy, but it was the only idea thought of. Paz collected rocks from the bottom of the sea bed. For the first time, Paz was having fun on the Island. The crystal clear water brushed against her skin like paint. The sea bed provided the most beautiful rocks that glimmered in the ocean. Those were the rocks she would collect. Paz collected around 500 rocks which surprisingly only a one hours time of work. Later on, she evenly divided the rocks into nine drum shaped objects. She began drumming. The rocks made a clatter of a noise. The beast heard the deafening sound and came storming after it. Paz felt the rumble of the ground, then the roar of the creature. It was coming, and it was coming fast.

My special friend
Below is an explanation explaining what a special friend is and why my special friend(Savannah) is my special friend. I hope you enjoy reading my 'Special Friend' explanation.
My Special Friend
A special friend is someone who comforts you in times of difficulty and sadness. When you’re feeling sorrowful, heartbroken, betrayed etc…… your special friend would understand and help you. A special friend would show sympathy by comforting you in emotional situations.
My special friend is Savannah. In times of sadness, Savannah always looks at the funny side. We laugh about humorous things in our past errors, never at each other. Savannah is the only person who is able to activate my humerous bone when feeling emotional. Savannah is my special friend.
Savannah is reliable and trustworthy. She is able to identify my emotions when feeling depressed, frightened, regretful etc…. I can share confidential information with her because she is trustworthy. Savannah is a dependable and trustworthy person.
A special friend comforts you when your feeling unpleasant emotions. When you’re feeling upset, embarrassed, enraged etc…… your special friend would be there to comfort you. A special friend would show sympathy by comforting you in emotional situations.
Phases of the Moon
Below is a presentation explaining the phases of the moon. It also includes two video's that is of interest. I hope you enjoy my group(Fine, Juliano, Efaraima, Yvette) presentation. I hope you enjoy this presentation.
My group presented this presentation to Room 5. Mrs Eeles liked how we added 'how to tell when the moon is waning or waxing' because she always forgets. I hope you enjoyed my groups presentation as much as Mrs Eeles.
Stars explanation
Below is an explanation explaining why stars are not visible during daytime. This explanation was writen by Fine(a classmate) and I. I hope our explanation fascinats you to explore furthermore into the world of astronomy.
Why are stars not visible during daytime?
Have you ever wondered why stars aren’t visible during daytime? Majority of people believe that stars have disappeared as the sunset rises, but stars are still there, just hiding. Stars are hidden behind the bright blue rays that are received from the Sun.
Stars are produced when a nebulae creates a ball of helium and hydrogen. Soon this sphere flames up and creates a star. When the helium and hydrogen gases interact with each other, they form an explosion or scientifically known as a ‘Nuclear fusion’. The more nuclear reactions that occur on this star, the brighter the star becomes.
As the Earth is spinning on its own axis, it absorbs darkness from the moon and light from the Sun. This is because one side of the Earth is facing the bright light from the Sun, while the other is facing the dark moon. It’s like when a person is facing the light, and the back of their body is dark. This creates the illusion of day and night. Due to the Suns bright blue light, we are not able to see the stars that are actually still there. Luckily as night falls, the stars shine brightly and are visible to the human naked eye.
Isn’t it amazing how we aren’t able to see stars at daytime, when they’re actually still there? The world of astronomy and stars contain a huge range of information that has still not been discovered to this day, but its a triumph to know we both understand just a small amount of knowledge on this particular subject.

Solar System Paragraph
Below is a paragraph my group created based around the solar system. I hope you learn some important facts about our solar system.
The Solar System is apart of the galaxy usually known as ‘The Universe’. The Solar System consists of eight planets, and more than a quadrillion amount of stars. In ancient times, people began to create constellations with the stars. Most people say that they’re able to probe the stars but do they realise stars are light years away from us, somewhere floating in lost gravity? Light Years away, Earth is spinning on its on axis. This process produces an illusion of day and night: One side of the Earth absorbs light from the Sun, while the other side absorbs darkness. Because of the nuclear fusions happening inside the Sun, day is caused when bright blue Sun rays hit Earth’s atmosphere, hiding stars from the naked human eyes. Astronauts who travel to space are trained so they’re able to help expand knowledge in space explorations and technology. We believe, that our solar system is unique.

Title: Spirit Walker
Author: Michelle Paver
Type of book: Fiction
Spirit Walker is the second book of the series 'Chronicles of Ancient Darkness'.
Paragraph:
Torak's life was at stake. Helplessly, I watch as Tenris takes hold of a knife. If I had fought harder, if I had convinced Torak of who Tenris is, Torak wouldn't be in the position of death, the forest and sea wouldn't be further indangered, and Torak would be safe. Torak's power is too powerful to be in the hands of someone so evil and horrid, so with all my strength, I pull apart the rope around my sufficating hands and search for my bow. The female soul eater noticed I had escaped and was heading in my direction. I glimpse my bow and arrows and head to seize them. Before the soul eater had a chance to lunge at me a shoot an arrow at Tenris. He falls to the ground in pain and aggeny. I rotate round and shot the female soul eater. As fast as I could, I untied Torak from the stone that had Torak strectched like dough. "Renn, I'm so sorry. I should have beleived you before - " "Come on! You can apologize as much as you want, but we need to leave now". Torak and I ran our weak bodies to the seal clan and had our weak bodies treated.

Why do people migrate to New Zealand
Why do people migrate to New Zealand?
Our task was to explain in our own words why people migrate to NZ. The skill we were practising was to find evedince to support our thinking.
- YvetteMy belief for migration to New Zealand is due to the better education that is desired by parents. According to the information from www.stats.govt.nz, younger aged people move from their recent home to another nation for their own education. Based on what I read on ‘ENZ’, people migrate from their nation because of the immense population and the quantity of pollution that had parents revise their decision of their child being educated in that certain country.

Historical Recount
For our topic in room 9 we are focusing on migration. We have been learning about the early voyaginging waka. We worked in groups to describe how we thought the chef, passengers, or tahunga felt onboard the voyaging waka as if you were the actual person onboard. In my group (Samantha, Fine, Yvette(me)) chose to describe how the chef felt. This is our historical recount below. ENJOY!!
Life at Sea
Onboard, my responsibility was to cater food for the pāhihi. This was a huge responsibility being that food was scarce. I prepared for the long voyage by gathering foods such as kumara, sugar cane and green coconuts. Ika was another option of food if meals were not available at times. Being that all wahine who were wise with food had tamariki, I filled the position of becoming the Kuki Rangatira. I would be abandoning my ngā mātua, although other wahine would shelter and provide for their family, I was turning the other cheek, looking forward to the journey ahead of me. The departure from Hawaiki was sorrowful, yet exciting. The water was crystal clear, passengers had seen dolphins and whales, and the Kaihī were having a good streak of luck on catching ika. Our surroundings were dead silence but with a twist, we were able to hear the screams of the wind 20 paces away. From then we knew, the days of excitement had ended. After the Kaihī had caught ika, the waves were unkind. All the pāhihi aboard the waka were not informed that the Kahihi hadn’t blessed the ika and sent a grateful prayer to Tangaroa. Because of this, wahine and tamariki aboard were feeling sea sick. For two days, all pāhihi were frustrated with the Kaihī, but when the waves had calmed down we carried on with our journey. After five days aboard the waka, I began to question myself if finding new land was possible. I had heard all the myths about other travellers and their waka’s crashing into the seabed. We were aboard with the best Tahuna and Kāpene, yet we couldn’t find land. There were no surroundings, no ika, no food and no hope. Quicker than the blink of an eye, a tamaiti had climbed up on the sails. Before the wahine could warn them to come down, the Tahuna howled out. “ Whakamoemiti atua kua kitea e matou i te whenua hou ” Within a second, laughter and song filled the empty ocean. The waka slowly slithered onto the sand and all paihi had ran out of the shelter and stretched. The hou whenua was unfamiliar but felt comfortable. The journey was dangerous and took more days than expected but in the end, finding hou whenua was worth it.

Storylines Show
Today, Storylines Show came to Panmure Bridge School and performed a show called Space Jump. The two performers were named Tye and Naomi. The show was about an alien from outer space coming to earth seeking creative books (fiction books). The alien was taught by a human friend how to use imagination and creativity. My favourite book that they had talked about was the Boring Book and the Three Bears Sorted. They taught us that even though we might not be able to read some books, you can always look at the pictures to help you understand what the book is about, or you could ask someone to read it to you. I really liked the performence they did for us and I hope that they will perform for us again next year.

Why is Facebook a problem?
Why is facebook a problem?
Do you know what Facebook is? Facebook is one of the most popular social networking sites in the world. But over the years, Facebook has been turning into the worlds biggest black hole.
For starters, many kids are under the age limit to be using Facebook, yet they still do. This is illegal! These under age children are not aware of what could happen to them. This leads children to get involved in sticky situations.
Facebook affects the minds of children. Facebook is addictive! Children all over the world go on Facebook more than 3 times a day for an hour or more. This causes a massive drop in grades!
Some kids have more than 500 friends. That is okay, unless these friends are people you do not know. Kids get in dangerous situations when they socialize with anonymous people. Some kids don’t understand the dangers out in the world! Children can be given fake information by their anonymous friend like their age and name.
As kids, we need to be careful of who we socialize with. There are a lot of dangers socializing with random people, we need to start realizing the situations that could happen and think more carefully of how we can resolve this. It is true to say, Facebook is ruining minds.

She looks like the perfect child to have.

He would be the guy to help out his neighbours.

She is a perfect match next to Andrew Garfield, and she is very nice.
